Ask yourself 6 questions:-

1. What is the occasion?

2. What will I wear with the hat?

3. What shape will suit me?

4. Will I wear the hat on more than one occasion?

5. Do I have somewhere to store the hat afterwards?

6. Can I afford to spend hundreds of pounds on the hat of my choice?

If you have asked yourself the above 6 questions and you have answered “NO” to 3 of them, then hiring a hat, as opposed to buying one maybe the best option for you.
Whether you have decided to hire or to buy your chosen hat, here are some top tips to ensure that you choose the correct hat for you.

• Take along your outfit when choosing a hat.

• Accessorise a plain outfit with contrasting colours.

• Never wear the same colour from top to toe.

• View your hat in different lights – daylight and artificial light.

• Bring along a relative or a friend for that all important second opinion.

• Position the hat tilted, or pull it low over the brow. Wear it straight but never wear it on the back of the head.

• Never hire or buy a hat that you are not entirely happy with.

• A small hat can be just as much as a statement as a large hat. If you are unsure about wearing a hat, why not try a fascinator as an alternative.

• Position your hat on your head with the milliners label or the seam to the back in line with your spine.

• If you wish to add height without wearing high heels, go for a hat with a high crown, an upturned brim or a fascinator with a high display.

• Try on as many styles and colours as possible. A hat that you may not like on display may look better on and vice versa.

• Allow at least an hour when shopping for a hat.

• The more you try on the easier the decision becomes as to which one suits you.

• Never choose an outfit to go with a hat; always choose your outfit first.

• Opt for a simple hat if you have a dressy outfit and vice versa.

• Remember when choosing your accessories for your outfit, that you coordinate your hat, shoes and handbag, otherwise your shoes may look lost when you take your hat off.

• Never buy a hat just because it is the right colour.

• As with shoes, the right hat is all about the fit.

• Walk around the hat studio in your chosen hat to get the feel of it.

• Most importantly at Harlequin Hats we want your hat experience to be a pleasurable one, and allow you to take your time and enjoy it.

Remember:-

1. Take your time.

2. Coordinate it with your outfit.

3. Ensure to choose the right shape, style and colour.

4. Be happy with the fit.

5. Be happy with the look.

6. Express your personality.

And remember Rules are for Breaking!
