When hiring a hat you have the opportunity of trying on many different styles, shapes, sizes and colours, the right choice will compliment you and your outfit.

To help you choose the hat that will compliment you the most, we have put together some guidance for your consideration:

1. Your Face Shape

• The crown of the hat should never be narrower than your face.

• Tall hats suit round faces.

• Smaller hats suit longer faces providing them with a frame.

• Rounded crowns suit just about every face shape.

• Square crowns work best for larger heads.

2. Your Height

• Tall ladies can wear larger hats than shorter ladies.

3. Your Hair Style

• The majority of hats look better when you sweep your hair back behind your ears, but if you have a fringe, leave it in place.

4. Your Torso

• The brim of the hat should not exceed the broadness of your shoulders.

• Try the hat at all different angles; ensure that you see what it looks like from the front and the sides.

• The hat may look better tilted forward or to the side.

• If you wear glasses, hats with upturned brims may be more suitable that those with a downturned brim.

• A hat is for wearing, and should stay on your head. Choose a hat that fits well and is comfortable.

The guidance and tips given are for consideration only, why not just throw the rule book out of the window when it comes to wearing a hat/fascinator. Let your chosen headwear be an extension of your personality, feel like a film star on the red carpet at the Oscars. Enjoy that special occasion.
